Create and Manage Project Categories for Resource Planning

Objective
To create project and manage project categories and subcategories in Resource Planning.
Background
Project categories and subcategories to help to better organize and manage your projects and resource. Some commonly used categories are:
Phases
Areas
Roles/Job Titles
Scope of Work
Floors
Things to Consider
Categories are specific to individual projects and must be created within each project.
If data syncs are enabled:
Categories in Resource Planning do not currently sync with Locations or Work Breakdown Structure in Procore.

Add Categories and Subcategories
Navigate to the Company level Resource Planning tool.
Click Assignments and select Gantt (Beta).
Next to the project name, click the vertical ellipsis
and select Add Category.
To add a subcategory, click the vertical ellipsis
next to the category, and select Add Subcategory.
OR
Right click the category bar and select New Subcategory.Enter the name of the subcategory.
Click out of the text box to save.

Copy Categories
Navigate to the Company level Resource Planning tool.
Click Assignments and select Gantt (Beta).
On the list or Gantt chart, press CTRL/CMD + c on your keyboard to copy.
OR
Right click the item or item bar and select Copy.Next to the item that was copied, press CTRL/CMD + v on your keyboard to paste.
OR
Right click and select Paste.Move or edit the item in the following ways:
Edit from Details1. On the list or Gantt chart, right click the item or item bar and select the Edit option**.**2. Edit the information.3. Click Update.
Move to a new category or project using drag and drop.1. On the list, click and hold the item. Move it to the desired location using a drag-and-drop operation.
Move the date on the Gantt chart1. On the Gantt chart, click and hold the item.2. Move the item to a new date using a drag-and-drop operation.
Rename Categories and Subcategories
Navigate to the Company level Resource Planning tool.
Click Assignments and select Gantt (Beta).
Double click the category or subcategory name.
Enter the new name. Then click anywhere on the screen to save.

Move Categories and Subcategories
Navigate to the Company level Resource Planning tool.
Click Assignments and select Gantt (Beta).
Click the category or subcategory. To move the assignments and requests within the category and maintain their spacing, press and hold the SHIFT key and select the assignments and requests. Click and hold the last selection, then move the group of tasks to the desired location using a drag and drop operation.

Delete Categories and Subcategories
Navigate to the Company level Resource Planning tool.
Click Assignments and select Gantt (Beta).
Next to the category or subcategory, click the vertical ellipsis
and select Delete this Category or Delete this Subcategory.
Click Delete to confirm.

Legacy Experience
Legacy ContentYou can also manage categories from the Assignment Boards, Gantt, or List via the legacy Project Details page.
Navigate to the Company level Resource Planning tool.
Click Assignments and select Assignment List, Boards, or Gantt (Legacy).
Click the name of your Project.
Locate the 'Categories' section and take any of the following actions:
Add Categories and Subcategories1. Click New.2. Enter the Category Name.3. Optional: If creating a subcategory, follow these steps:1. Click Add Subcategory.2. Enter the Subcategory Name.3. Click Save.4. Click Save
Rename Categories1. Click Edit.2. Click the settings
icon.3. Enter the name.4. Click Save.
Delete Categories1. Click Edit.2. Click the delete
icon.3. Type Yes.4. Click Delete
You can also manage categories from the Assignment Boards, Gantt, or List via the legacy Project Details page.

Click Assignments and select Assignment List, Boards, or Gantt (Legacy).
